It's DERBY DAY!
RUN FOR THE ROSES
May 3rd is Derby Day! The Run for the Roses is one of the oldest sports in
American History and one of the Triple Crown races; the largest of the
three. It’s met with a lot of pomp and circumstance and originally it was a
marketing tool to promote the breeding industry of Kentucky. It’s become as
popular as Mardi Gras is to New Orleans and more.
Join us for a day at the Races and a chance to win a 15-minute call! Answer
our Trivia questions for an additional 5 minutes added to any 20-minute
purchased call.
Rules:
You need to be in chat for Trivia. You must be an active caller, who has
ordered a call within the past 60 days. Trivia will begin at 3:00 PM EST and
questions will be randomly scattered throughout the 2 hours before race
time. You have 15 minutes after the question is asked to call dispatch with
the correct answer to receive your bonus minutes but you must purchase your
call first and then give the answer to find out if you get the extra time.
You can get with your favorite girl to come up with the answer.
The final entrants for the race are not picked until 3 days prior to
the run for the roses. The contenders will be posted here on April 30th as soon as they are drawn.
Pick your favorite to win. You also need to pick second (called “place”) and
third (“show”) as well. The one to pick the First place winner, gets the
15-minute call. If there is more than one First place winner, we will then
look to second and 3rd place for tiebreakers. BCB girls can take part in this
portion of the Promotional.
Email your picks to Brynn@baycityblues.com no later than 12:00 noon EST, May 3rd. Check your local listings for Race time which should be around 5:00 or 6:00 PM Eastern. Good Luck!
Here it is!! Posting the contestant list early so you can do your homework. Good Luck and see you in chat!

Georgia's Note : What's Derby Day without a drink in your hand?
The Perfect Mint Julep
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water (branch water is ideal)
Fresh Mint
Crushed Ice
Kentucky Bourbon (2 ounces per serving)
Make a simple mint syrup* by boiling sugar and water together for 5 minutes; cool. Place in a covered container with 6 or 8 bruised mint sprigs. Refrigerate overnight.
Make a julep by filling a julep cup* or glass with crushed ice, then adding 1 tablespoon of mint syrup and 2 ounces of bourbon. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost outside of cup or glass. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig..
*This makes enough syrup for about 44 juleps.
Extra Tips:
Always use a premium Kentucky bourbon
Use crushed or shaved ice and pack in cup.
To bruise mint, place in a cup and gently pass the back of a spoon between cup and the leaves a time or two. You want the mint to release some of the fragrant oils.
Add a straw cut to protrude just above the rim of the cup and serve. You should be able to get a faint whiff of the mint sprig when you're sipping.
Keep the covered syrup in the refrigerator (after removing the mint leaves) if you don't plan on drinking all the servings..( uh what?)
Enjoy..
